What's the Buzz?

Welcome to another of my blog posts! Next week is going to be the finals of the World Championship tournament for league of legends. I’ll start off by talking about the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS). For the North American division it basically goes like this. The top teams from the previous season automatically claim a spot in the LCS. The other teams are decided by a qualifying tournament. In this tournament there are standard ranked 5v5 teams that must play against already established teams.  The top 5 winners from this tournament move up to the play in the LCS. There are more mid and late season qualifiers and tournaments. After all that, the teams that remain go on into the playoffs. The top 3 teams at the end of playoffs move on into the World Championship. There is a similar qualification path for the other areas of the world.

This season I was rooting for Team Solo Mid (TSM) to go all the way. I wanted TSM to win because I like the people who play on that team. My favorite player on the team is “TheOddOne”. He plays the role of jungle on their team. My second favorite is “Dyrus” he plays as the top laner. Sadly they ended up getting knocked out in the group stages of the World Championship. After group stage ended I only had one more North American team to root for. That would be Cloud Nine (C9).  I don’t really know much about them but I still wanted an NA team to win. C9 ended up losing the best of three games to Fnatic, an EU team in the first part round of the bracket. Next week is going to be finals. In finals I am going to be rooting for Royal Club. The only reason I want them to win is because of their support player “Tabe”. Tabe is an extremely humble person. The team that they will be facing is called SK Telecom T1. SKT1 has, in my opinion the best mid laner in the world. He can pull off the craziest stuff in the hardest matchups. The game between SKT1 and Royal Club will be taking place on October 4th at 11pm. I recommend watching their games because as of right now, these are the best two teams in the world. This is the first season I have played league all the way through so I am extremely excited to see what is happening in the 4th season.  In my next post I will probably be talking about the highlights of season 3 for me and what I’m look forward to in season 4.

Thanks for reading!

My Online Gaming History

Welcome to my Second Blog post! As you can already see, today I am going to be talking about my brief history of playing online games. I started off by playing Combat Arms. Combat Arms is a first person shooter MMO (massive multiplayer online).  It was introduced to me by my friend Aaron.

It was a Friday night. We had just gotten done with Muscle Man Volleyball. Muscle man volleyball is an event that my past high school had. It is a volleyball tournament with teams of 4 guys. A team plays one game and the winner of the game moves on. The winning team takes on the faculty team. It was a lot of fun even though I think we lost our first game and were instantly out. This took place my sophomore year of high school. I had just recently broken up with my ex-girlfriend. She was my first girlfriend so I was pretty bummed all week. They invited me to the team to help me take my mind off things. After we lost, we were just chilling in the locker room for a while. Aaron saw that I was still sad. Now I wasn’t just sad about the break-up, but now I was sad that I didn’t play my best in the game. He ended up inviting me to Pizza Hut with him and Chris to cheer me up. Chris was also on our team. Since I still couldn’t drive he insisted that I spend the night to make it easier on my parents. First thing we did was watch Fast and Furious 4. I’m not much of a car guy so I thought the movie was boring. Afterwards Aaron wanted to know if I play any games. I told him all about my childhood with GameCube. He insisted that I try Combat Arms out. I think he knew I needed something to preoccupy myself with. To save you from having to listen to another big long story… Combat Arms ended up dying. Meaning, less and less people were playing it. So I wanted to find something new to play. That’s when I found League.

The first time I played league I thought it was the worst thing I had ever laid my eyes on. The Camera angle was weird, I had no idea what items where, and champions where a big mess of things to memorize. I tried playing it a few times but I eventually gave up on it. After about three months or so, my last few remaining friends who still played Combat Arms told me that they were moving on to other games. I didn't like any of the games they were playing so I ended up jumping back on the League of Legends horse. I played it for a few weeks and ended up liking it a lot. I guess I just needed to give it a chance to grow on me. I was still played atrociously bad for about 3 months, but I got a little better when I started watching a guy on www.twitch.tv who is very good at the game. I’m still just learning. I’ve finally gotten past playing normal games and have moved on to playing ranked games. I don’t ever plan on playing League professionally. It’s just something I will play with friends when there’s time.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post! Leave me any questions or comments that you may have!

Why I Chose This Topic

Hello and welcome to my blog! My topic is unfortunately not made very clear through the title of this blog. The term “LoL” refers to the game called League of Legends. ZoldierX is my in game name (IGN). Playing “league” is definitely my favorite past time. I have quite a few friends who play league along with me.  That always makes it a good time. I have a friend who was a foreign exchange student from Korea. Over the summer he and I were able to talk and play together. I was only able to play with him in the early mornings because the time there is 13 hours ahead of Eastern Time. Not only do I play with my friends, I also have the opportunity to play with my cousin. Ever since I was little I haven’t been able to hang out or talk to my other family members much. So it’s nice being able to play with him and see how he’s doing.

When it comes to league there are a plethora of sub-topics to talk about. The game in itself is quite a diverse topic. There are champions, skins, maps, a champion’s lore (story), ranking, patches, and builds. Not to mention how the game is played professionally world-wide. The third world championship is even taking place right now in Los Angeles, California! Did I mention that the game is STILL growing? Well it is! You can go check it out yourself on YouTube at any time. there are also people streaming games of League of Legends constantly. I will leave the link to such streams later on in this blog post. A stream is basically a live broadcast of what a person is doing on their computer.

I suppose that most of you reading this have never heard of League of Legends. Since that’s the case I might as well explain what it is as best I can. League of Legends is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) Developed by Riot Games. There are 5 players per team (3 players on the map called Twisted Treeline). Each player chooses a champion to play as. There are currently one hundred and fifteen champions to play as. The objective is to destroy the other team’s nexus. To do that, each team must fight and kill minions, jungle monsters or champions of the other team to gain gold. Gold is used to buy items. These items in turn make the champion stronger.

If you would like to watch a short cinematic trailer of the game, here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-hXQ1oEn84

If you would like to watch some gameplay to see what it is like to actually play the game, here is the link for that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ndf5O6WNvkw the guy who is playing in this game is also really good at explaining how to play the game well.

I am happy to be able to talk about one of my favorite hobbies. That being said, I will gladly answer any questions or comments you may have.
